[101] Thanatos

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Inspired by this song. Which will have to be posted later cause my Internet is being dumb. All fixed now.

Hot nights
Heat waves

A songbird cries its melody
Even as the night grows dark
Otherworldy spirits walk the roads
The animals fear them not

The owl hoots
Takes to flight
At the head of the column
The Dark God walks

Guiding his way
The owl leads
Soon they reach
Their destination unaccosted.

Within, a family slumbers
Without, a gang of thieves watches
The Dark God stands by
As the gang attacks

Haunting, his maidens sing
They cover the screams within
A child runs outside
She stops in front of them

Accusing, she points
At him
He smiles
Her death certain.

Writing quote

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

“He bound her with chains of longing. With desire and lust of power, did his desire overcome her freedom. He sought to restore to life his mistakes. For her crimes, did she deserve punishment, and such a one she sought, but more than that she was punished.”

What does the above scenario sound like to you?

Opinions Wanted

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

If you’re a writer or consider yourself a writer, do you also like working with your hands? I’m talking things like knitting, cooking, crafting (creating cosplay props count), gardening, DIY, repairing stuff, etc.

If you do, then what’s your passion? What do you do besides giving in to the all-consuming master that is writing?

[Meme] Cause I commented on Deru’s and Kitsy’s

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

The first five to comment in this post get to request a drabble/fic of any pairing/character/setting (pairing and characters only from fandom I’m familiar with).

Drabble only folks. That, according to Kitsy, is usually about 100 words, so expect shorts (will probably overrun). In return, they have to post this in their journal, regardless of their ability level free will.

Fandoms are:
Fire Emblem
Ruroni Kenshin
Flame of Recca (anime only)
Blood+
Seirei no Moribito
Sakura Wars
Sailormoon
Yuyu Hakusho

XD

Prompts taken:
1. C – A character talks to another character about the lethality of pencils.
2. Deru- Interaction between Yahiko and Tsubame
3. Zhilbar – Sanosuke meets Kuwabara and debates manliness

Words for the year

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Inspired by Joanna’s A Word to Last the Year post, here’s my word for 2010:

Tenaciously.

It was a word I discovered from Confident Writing sometime last year. Tenacity means, according to Oxford:

  1. holding firmly to something.
  2. persisting in existence or in a course of action.

My weakness has never been starting. It’s always been completion. Distractions figure too much in my life, and even with goals, I tend to drop personal projects once I’ve stopped being infatuated with them, even if the projects are uncompleted.

See: Nanowrimo, Queen of Daggers, Office Meido Chronicles.

The main reason I give up so easily on such projects is writer’s block. Once I hit a writer’s block, I make token attempts at persisting, and if it works, it works. If it doesn’t, I put it away and promise to come back later.

Which rarely happens.

That’s why my word this year is tenacity. It’s sticking to finishing what I started, no matter how long it takes. No matter how dreary. No matter how much I want to curl up and die. No matter the bad days. No matter the good days.

Perseverance and Tenacity.

Yosh!

2010 Resolution

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Just one. A very simple one.

All fiction writings must have a wordcount set before I write it. That’s all.

Now, onto next work.

Darkness and Light

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Do not confuse Dark and evil. The two are as alike as the Light and goodness. Good and evil are motivation, while Light and Dark are the powers themselves. One may use the Dark to do good, and use the Light to do evil.

Conversations with Bishops

Long-term observations are incomplete without an analysis of the language. Each generation signifies its commitment by the words they use. Pay no attention to words uttered by an individual, but by the groups you observe.

[Nanowrimo] A good reason to end stories

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Thanks to LadySeishou for finding the actual quote and otter_nanowrimo on Dreamwidth for mentioning it:

Yeah, well, the inspiration of a new story is exciting. But if you wind up not finishing ninety percent of what you start, guess what happens. After a few years you’ll have written 100 beginnings, 40 middles, and only 10 endings. Which means you’ll be great at writing beginnings, only so-so at middles, and you’ll suck at endings. Which means you will almost certainly keep faltering between the middle and the end of every story, which means you’ll keep giving up and not finishing . . . Rinse, repeat.

And that’s a hole you don’t want to fall into. So finish, even if you know this story isn’t going to win you the Nobel Prize—it’s good practice to type THE END.

It’s a great writing tip from Scott Westerfield.

[Poem] Who am I?

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Directly inspired by Karcy saying I called her a feminist.

I am a person, the home to many.

Within me lies the power of words
The truth I seek is the truth I own
Many faces, many sides, many façades do I present
Each that you see is a reflection of me.

Identities I have many
Sister, friend, mother, daughter, lover, friend
Conventional, but for
The mischief maker, the sensual one, the defiant child, the angry woman, the bullying voice, the fearsome stature, the woman I am
I am all of these, yet each are me.

Personalities I have but one
Within that one I have many modes
Childlike, fangirl, sober, serious, humourous, mournful…
Aching, despairing, hopeful, broken hearted.

The world, it wants to define me
It tells me I am Asian
It says I am a Christian
My nation is Malaysian
My race is human.

Labels I see, labels I peel
Pretty pretty sticky things
No meaning do they have for me
But for the roadmaps they point out.

Once I said I am woman, hear me roar
Now I say I am human, hear me speak
Lend me your ears, open your mind
Give me your hand, show me your tale

Many identities do I have
Many more shall I seek
By my conscience and my choices
This life, in my hands, is for me to take.
