[Poetry] Setiap Bayang Ada Cahayanya

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Merunsing
Hatiku berpusing
Kegelisahan bertambah
Di ambang merdeka kini

Kekecohan
Di jalanan, mahupun di kampung
Di bandar dan di rumah
Semuanya gemuruh

Dalam kegelapan ini
Teringat suatu peribahasa
Di mana bayangnya, di situlah cahaya

Dengan cahaya wujudlah gelapan
Dalam sinaran adalah bayangnya
Untuk setiap yang inginkan kemusnahan
Wujudlah lebih ramai yang inginkan keamanan

Negaraku bukannya yang termoden
Negaraku mungkin terlalu runsing
Tapi yang adanya macha
Tiada warna, tiada sempadan

Mereka yang mementingkan diri
Terlalu inginkan kuasa dan wang
Sehingganya negara yang menjadi mangsa
Rakyatnya yang merana

Dalam bayangan wujudlah cahaya
Dalam runsingan wujudnya jawapan
Dalam kegelapan adalah harapan
Dalam rakyat adalah pendirian

Kepada mereka yang inginkan kemusnahan
Kepada mereka yang inginkan kuasa
Baliklah, iblis, ke nerakamu
Tinggalkan negaraku Malaysia sekarang!

Ditulis sempena Kemerdekaan Malaysia ke 53 dan Hari Malaysia ke 47. Inspired by a quote from the Mothership, “who would like to remind you that in this ever present darkness, there’s always someone nearby with a light. And if you’re willing, you can be that light.”

Quick note to muse

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Hi Colt and Saber

I’m not sure which of you did that, but I’m pretty sure it’s most likely to be Colt. Yes Saber, the scenario does make sense, but for you to wake up and do THAT to Colt? -_-” I’ll write it when I’m good and ready and not minutes before I leave for a meeting thanks.

But don’t stop being hot, y’all. :D

Dates and Men

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I was reading the Star’s Weekender when I came across this article by a “Mark Lee” who lamented that thanks to feminism, men did not know what women wanted anymore. Did they want their man to be chivalrous and pick up the tab? Did they want their man to treat them as equals and share it? Or was it all a guessing game, with the man forever doomed to be the loser for not being able to read a woman’s mind?

According to Lee, he had taken two different approaches with the ladies. For the first date, he had done everything a “gentleman” would have done. That is to say, he picked the restaurant, ordered her food, and paid the bill. She didn’t want to have a second date with him.

For the second girl, he had done quite the opposite. He met her at the restaurant, ordered his food while she was still mulling over hers, and then didn’t see her home safely. She told him he wasn’t charming enough.

So now you have poor Mark Lee wondering just where he went wrong. Oh yes, I forgot to mention, apparently he says this feminism thing has also left his good friend, a feminist who could probably arm wrestle a man into submission, single as she can’t find a guy who would “sweep her off her feet.”

Can you see now why Mark Lee irritates me so?

Reading his entry leads me to conclude one thing: he’s lazy. And rude. And used to being pampered. He reminds me of another guy who says that feminism, at this point in time, is a lie.

Here’s the thing, boys. It’s not about you. When it comes to dating, feminism is simply about one thing, and one thing alone: LISTENING TO THE PERSON YOU ARE DATING. Just as not all men are alike, women are even more varied than men. There is no real formula or ritual you can use for every girl. There is, however, one trick to making things work out if you are serious about it.

God/Nature gave you two eyes and two ears. And a single brain.
Use them, please! Before you go on a date, ask her if she would be comfortable driving there herself or if she would rather you pick her up. Find out what kind of a person she is. CHAT with her. I’m in awe of guys who go on dates without doing this simple background check. If you’re on a blind date, ask the person who arranged the date about whether she’d like you to pick up the tab or if she’d like to go Dutch. After all, you wouldn’t meet with a client without doing some basic background research, right?

Of course, whether you really hit it off with her later that I can’t say. It cannot hurt though, to discover what her boundaries are and to respect them. That shows that you are genuinely interested in them for who they are, which is the best way to score points, no?

[Shorts] Unexpectations

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

They were not what the elders wanted.

When Ariska was seven years old, her half-sister was born. She sat in a dark corner watching the festivities as everyone celebrated the child’s birth. Blond, blue-eyed, and perfect in every way, Rihona was the complete opposite of the tan-skinned, dark-haired and almond-eyed Ariska. At night, as everyone slept, Ariska crept into the nursery. Armed with a pillow she went to Rihona, her heart burning with anger and pain.

As she raised the pillow, Rihona woke up. She grinned a secret smile. Ariska smiled back; the babe too, was not what the elders sought.

Script Frenzy: Hallo thar!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Why, Hallo Thar, Lang! You’re late, but perfect timing! Heheheheheeeeee~

Also, I realise I need to change the year. I wrote the Script Frenzy challenge as 2009 instead of 2010. Whoops!

I don’t think I’ll be able to finish Script Frenzy this year. But I am very amused where I am right now. I finally have my romance. I am happy. The two of them? Maybe not so. But seeing Franziska take the lead to kiss Miles…

Siiiiggghhh~

Script Frenzy checklist!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Things to check and complete:

- Compile logic pieces that have appeared so far
- Compile list of clues
- Determine what happens after the second office scene
- Determine what exactly it is I want to do with the Kane family
- Figure out how to get Franziska and Miles into bed (NOT WITH ME!)

If this were a novel I’d be grinning. *tears hair out*

Script Frenzy moments

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

A lot of people know my muses are very active in my head. While writing a random profile for Franziska of Ace Attorney, the following came about:

(Main character: Miles Edgeworth)
Profile: Franziska Von Karma
A fellow prosecutor and the daughter of my mentor. Likes to whisper to no one in particular.

I found myself typing this right after that:

AT THIS POINT, THE WRITER HAS THE DISTINCT FEELING THAT SOMEONE IS WATCHING HER AND CRACKING A HORSE WHIP.

Muses are scary.

[Civicness] Silence is not an option

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

I happened to read this post from the Merch Girl’s blog before I read Haris Ibrahim’s take on a dead Hindu man who was declared a Muslim at the last minute.

The first emotion that came to me was rage. I’m VERY angry at the way those in the position of power will attempt to do anything and everything they can to get money. That, and the fact that according to most of these “Muslims” there needs to be NO sensitivity spared for those mourning the loss of their beloved.

It is as though to these people, that a bereaving family does not deserve to be treated like human beings because they are not humans. That it’s perfectly fine to submit flimsy pieces of evidence (a conversion cert that did not even match the signature of the deceased!) and call that person a Muslim. Did I mention that these monsters also thought it fit to take away a BREAST-FEEDING CHILD FROM HER MOTHER because she was “of the wrong religion” and needed rehabilitation?

I’m sick of being treated like a second-class citizen because some people associate the idea of “Official Religion” with superiority. That debate is halted because calling into question the way Islam is treated in this country is an insult to that religion.

I’m sick of being told what to say, and what I cannot. I’m tired of being insulted. I’m so tired of watching my country get stolen despite the fact that we voted. I’m tired of racists who insist that I must recognise myself as a Malaysian first, but yet insist that they are Malays first before the country.

I’m sick of people who don’t know their jobs trying to tell me what to do. I hate that lies are so common here in Malaysia. That daughters, sisters and mothers who need safety are treated like animals to satisfy animals.

I’m tired of being ignored because I am a woman. I’m tired of watching my sisters be attacked because they are women, and they are women with powerful voices.

I will NOT remain silent. I WILL remember. I WILL SPEAK. I will WRITE. It is the only thing I can do.

Script Frenzy: Outline

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Script Frenzy seems to have snuck on me and completely taken me by surprise. No thanks to me playing Ace Attorney Investigations: Miles Edgeworth, I seem to have gained two new muses, who have also insisted on being the star of my Script Frenzy virgin try. Ah well.

The headache part about writing this script is the difficulty in keeping to their voices and characters. Miles and Franziska sound very similar, and the fact is after 14 pages, I still have no idea which one of these two wants to be the main character. Still, at least now I know that we’re talking about making this into a game, and Plotbot tells me that I can do branch scripts (where there can be alternates for the scenes I’ve written) so that may be a big help.

Ok, enough rambling. Now be time to create rough outline before I go offtrack (a novel can go all over the place, a script, not so).

[101] Six Swords

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

The first thing they saw was the scythe. Always the scythe. They almost missed the boy with his book. It was a book after all, not nearly as threatening as the girl who wielded the scythe.

But they were always a pair. Always together. And when they were in action, everyone disappeared quickly.

For the girl was harmless on her own. Relatively, compared to the devastation her brother created. When the scythe swung, the book was opened. When the book was opened, the boy chanted. When he chanted, the girl attacked.

And when they were done, the battlefield was cleared.

Letter to muses… and headspace

A slightly longer version of what I posted over to Note to Muse on LJ:

Dear Kishou and Ta’Lern

Dear Sukina, Naoko and the rest of that female line
Darlings, wait wait what? You girls want to do WHAT? This is taking that story wayyyyyyyy out of left field.

Dear Annwn

[101] Thanatos

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

Inspired by this song. Which will have to be posted later cause my Internet is being dumb. All fixed now.

Hot nights
Heat waves

A songbird cries its melody
Even as the night grows dark
Otherworldy spirits walk the roads
The animals fear them not

The owl hoots
Takes to flight
At the head of the column
The Dark God walks

Guiding his way
The owl leads
Soon they reach
Their destination unaccosted.

Within, a family slumbers
Without, a gang of thieves watches
The Dark God stands by
As the gang attacks

Haunting, his maidens sing
They cover the screams within
A child runs outside
She stops in front of them

Accusing, she points
At him
He smiles
Her death certain.

Writing quote

Add to Memories Tell a Friend

“He bound her with chains of longing. With desire and lust of power, did his desire overcome her freedom. He sought to restore to life his mistakes. For her crimes, did she deserve punishment, and such a one she sought, but more than that she was punished.”

What does the above scenario sound like to you?

If you’re a writer or consider yourself a writer, do you also like working with your hands? I’m talking things like knitting, cooking, crafting (creating cosplay props count), gardening, DIY, repairing stuff, etc.

If you do, then what’s your passion? What do you do besides giving in to the all-consuming master that is writing?
